Taffie Jones focuses his practice primarily on preparing and prosecuting international and US patent applications, primarily in the oil and gas industry and related arts, and domestic trademark and service mark applications as well as follow-on internation Madrid Protocol filings.
Prior to joining Abel Schillinger, LLP, Taffie began her career as an analytical chemist within a well-known farmer-owned agribusiness and dairy cooperative headquartered in Minnesota working in feed and forage analysis. As a Patent Attorney, Taffie has gained experience in all aspects of preparing and prosecuting U.S. and foreign patent applications for technologies in several areas both in the private sector and as in-house counsel, including in the biochemical arts, mechanical technologies, and medical devices. She collaborated directly with clients, inventors, and in-house operations/counsel to understand, explain, capture, and protect all aspects of their intellectual property.

- Preparing and prosecuting domestic, international, and national stage utility, plant, and design patent applications
- Preparing and prosecuting state, domestic, and international (foreign direct filings and Madrid Protocol) trademark and service mark applications for standard character and stylized marks
- Conducting Patentability and Clearance/Freedom-to-Operate (FTO) searches, analysis, and recommendations
- Review and collaboration on Patent and Trademark Infringement/Invalidity assessment and evaluation as well as providing external counsel support for potential litigation needs
- Supporting patent and trademark foreign associate input and direction/instruction
- Conducting Trademark Clearance searches, analysis, and recommendations
- Copyright review and recordation
- Providing client counseling and strategic vision for best paths forward for all intellectual property coverage as needed, including trade secret and trade dress
- Providing express intellectual property (IP) contract drafting needs, including consent/coexistence agreements, IP transfer agreements, and patent/trademark license agreements
