Profile

Maria Amon focuses her practice primarily on preparing and prosecuting international and US patent applications.

Turning theory into practice
Long before starting her practice, Maria Amon knew that her passion for science would form the foundation for her future. Choosing an interdisciplinary study of biology and chemistry was an easy decision and would later help to define her path as she set her sights on law school and the technical field of intellectual property.

While earning her J.D. at the University of Texas School of Law, Maria took on the role of Administrative Editor of the Texas Intellectual Property Law Journal. Additionally, she worked as an intern for the Honorable David Briones, Senior District Judge for the Western District of Texas, and gained valuable legal experience that she uses to this day.

High-tech inventions, real-world impact
Prior to joining Abel IP, Maria began her career as an intellectual property attorney at the Houston based law firm, Patterson + Sheridan, LLP.  As an associate with P+S, Maria gained experience in all aspects of preparing and prosecuting U.S. and foreign patent applications for technologies in the chemical, biomedical, electrical, semiconductor, and computer science fields.  She worked directly with clients, inventors and in-house counsel to understand, explain, capture and protect all aspects of their intellectual property.  Maria also gained invaluable experience in the field of intellectual property protection as part of multiple trial teams for high profile patent infringement litigations.

Complete solutions for IP management
When it comes to finding innovative ways to protect and enforce IP, Maria rises to the challenge. She understands that it’s not enough to merely learn an inventor’s technology, but also zeroes in on how they operate their business. Through this comprehensive approach, Maria assists her clients in maximizing the value of their portfolios while offering creative strategies for meeting both short- and long-term objectives.
